High-Temperature RTV Silicone Sealant, Gray

The AXIOM® AS185 high-temperature one-component grey automotive silicone sealant is used for forming or repairing gaskets in vehicle assemblies exposed to high temperatures, such as the engine sump and gearbox sump, the water pump, the timing gear cover, the thermostat housing and others. It can replace gaskets and oil seals as well as paper, rubber, metal and other seals.

It contains no solvents or acids, does not cause corrosion and can be used for sealing electrical connections and sensors. The room-temperature vulcanising RTV silicone forms a strong, elastic gasket (elongation at break 500%). It has increased adhesion to steel, cast iron and aluminium surfaces. It is resistant to automotive service fluids (lubricants, coolants, acid and alkali solutions). It fills cavities and gaps up to 7 mm.

The cured sealant can be used in the temperature range from –60°C to +345°C (for short periods). Blog article →

  • Vulcanises at room temperature
  • Operating temperature range from –60°C to +345°C
  • Odourless, neutral-cure base
  • Contains no solvents or acids, does not cause corrosion
  • Fills cavities and gaps up to 7 mm
  • Not degraded by automotive service fluids (oils, antifreeze, brake fluid, etc.)
  • Withstands high loads and vibration

For gasket replacement and sealing of:

  • electrical connections and sensors
  • the engine sump
  • the gearbox housing cover
  • the water pump
  • the inlet manifold
  • the thermostat housing
  • Work is recommended at an ambient temperature between +5°C and +40°C and a sealant temperature of +20–25°C.
  • Before applying the sealant, clean, degrease and dry the surfaces. To remove traces of old sealant it is recommended to use A9605 “Sealant remover”. For degreasing and cleaning – A9601 “Brake and clutch parts cleaner”.
  • Using the supplied nozzle, apply the sealant as a continuous uniform bead 2–3 mm thick to one of the surfaces; first along the inner perimeter, then around the fastener holes, and join the parts without waiting for polymerisation to begin.
  • Skin formation time – 7-12 minutes; full vulcanisation time – 24 hours (at a temperature of +23°C and a relative humidity of 55%). After the sealant has vulcanised, no additional retightening of the bolts is required.
  • On completion of work, clean the nozzle tip and close the tube.
  • Clean surfaces contaminated with uncured sealant using a solvent (acetone, white spirit).
  • Remove excess cured sealant mechanically using A9605 “Sealant remover”.
